Vanity © Marti Dodson/Joel Plimmer

It’s a cold world
For the young girls
Trying to be society pretty
It’s a hard knock
For the the long shot
When it’s rigged for the ringer to win it
Mama told me pretty is as pretty does
Well I still don’t know what that means
But I know I’ve had enough

So take the box we don’t fit in and shove it
Damned if you do or if you don’t so honey
You might as well love yourself
And save your sanity
We’ll always be too much or too little
So why not take up the whole damn middle
No I ain’t changing who I’m made to be
In the name of vanity

Gotta lose weight
Fix your whole face
To reach some impossible standard
And you’re the bad guy
If you don’t buy
Into that old propaganda
Can’t change enough to change their minds
But we could change the world with that wasted time

So take the box we don’t fit in and shove it
Damned if you do or if you don’t so honey
You might as well love yourself
And save your sanity
We’ll always be too much or too little
So why not take up the whole damn middle
No I ain’t changing who I’m made to be
In the name of vanity

Good enough ain’t ever good enough
Wouldn’t we be better off if we just
Tried to be happy and gave it our best
Tell em what they can do with the rest

Take the box we don’t fit in and shove it
Damned if you do or if you don’t so honey
You might as well love yourself
And save your sanity
We’ll always be too much or too little
So why not take up the whole damn middle
No I ain’t changing who I’m made to be
In the name of vanity
In the name of vanity
